The shooting occurred just before 5 p.m. on the corner of Walton Avenue and Elliot Place. Surveillance video shows Jacob Freytes was struck in the shoulder after emerging from a deli. He reportedly dashed back into the store for safety before collapsing on the floor. The gunfire erupted following an argument among a group of men. While Jacob Freytes was killed, two other men, aged 25 and 34, were also struck by gunfire; both are expected to survive. Police have not yet made any arrests or released a description of the suspect. Mayor Zohran Mamdani expressed his sympathy for the family, stating that children should be able to ride their bikes without the fear of being shot. The United Bodegas of America shared the footage, noting that the boy had been buying a ball when the violence occurred.
