Two tornadoes struck northern New Jersey on Tuesday, causing significant wind damage and flash flooding across the tri-state region.

Two tornadoes touched down in northern New Jersey on Tuesday, impacting Stanhope in Sussex County and Parsippany-Troy Hills in Morris County. While the National Weather Service will conduct surveys to determine the official strength of the storms, initial reports indicate that most damage was confined to major roadways. In Stanhope, downed trees obstructed Route 206 and Route 80, with one tree catching fire after falling onto a powerline. The severe weather triggered a First Alert for the region, bringing heavy downpours, gusty winds, and flash flooding. In Morris County, nearly 1,000 customers lost power, though no injuries were reported. Meanwhile, the storms disrupted regional travel, causing hundreds of flight delays and cancellations at Newark, JFK, and LaGuardia airports. Governor Mikie Sherrill noted that the state Department of Transportation activated its operations center to manage road safety during the evening commute. The weather system is expected to clear overnight, leaving the region humid with temperatures in the 70s.
