FitzWalter Capital Partners Outbids David Zaslav to Acquire Mohawk Day Camp in High-Profile Bankruptcy Auction
FitzWalter Capital Partners emerged as the winning bidder for Mohawk Day Camp, outbidding Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav in a bankruptcy auction. While David Zaslav offered $68 million for the property as a personal investment, the global private investment firm secured the assets for $120.8 million. The camp, located in Westchester County, New York, was part of a larger portfolio owned by Simad Holding, which filed for bankruptcy after owners Michael Shabsels and David Shabsels defaulted on loans and double-pledged assets. The auction resulted in the sale of 23 campsites for a total of $368.3 million. Other notable sales included Camp Echo, which sold for $17 million to American Youth Camping Inc., and Country Roads Day Camp, which sold to the Jewish Community Center of Greater Monmouth County for $14.5 million. The bankruptcy process was initiated to ensure continuity for families and to pay back secured creditors, including Israeli bondholders who are likely to be paid back in full. A sales hearing is scheduled for August 10 to confirm the final results.
