Five people died in the Scioto River in Powell, Ohio, after a group of adults entered the water to rescue a struggling swimmer. The tragedy occurred Sunday evening while the group was fishing. Delaware County Sheriff Jeffrey Balzer reported that the incident began when one adult started to struggle in the water. Two others entered the river to help, and two more followed to assist. All five adults eventually succumbed to the water. Two women were pulled from the river on Sunday night and pronounced dead at local hospitals. The bodies of three men were recovered by first responders on Monday. The group included two sets of parents. Two children under the age of 10 who were with the group have been placed in the care of family services. The Delaware County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the incident. Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims while they notify the next of kin.
