Zahnia Barr and Shakara Green killed in separate mass shootings during Rochester large gatherings
Rochester police are investigating two mass shootings that occurred during large public gatherings over the weekend, resulting in the deaths of Zahnia Barr and Shakara Green. Zahnia Barr, a 14-year-old student, was killed early Saturday morning on North Clinton Avenue after police dispersed a large crowd following Puerto Rican Festival festivities. Police believe she was an innocent bystander rather than the intended target. On Sunday morning, 35-year-old Shakara Green was killed in a second mass shooting at the intersection of Clifford Avenue and North Street. Police report that a person in a car began firing at a crowd of approximately 100 people, leaving Green as the primary fatality. Mayor Malik Evans has responded to the scenes, describing the shootings as tragedies and implementing new gathering restrictions for groups of 10 or more people between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. to curb future violence. The Rochester Police Department continues to investigate both incidents, seeking suspects and reviewing surveillance footage to identify those responsible.
