Sonam Wangchuk continues indefinite hunger strike in Delhi to demand educational reforms and the resignation of the education minister.

Sonam Wangchuk has entered the 20th day of an indefinite hunger strike in Delhi, persisting despite growing pressure from the opposition and civil society to end his fast. The climate activist and engineer has lost over 9kg and appears increasingly frail as he protests at Jantar Mantar. Wangchuk is leading the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a movement demanding a complete overhaul of the Indian education system. The protesters are specifically seeking the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan following the cancellation of a major medical entrance exam due to a paper leak. While the administration has yet to engage in a formal dialogue with the protesters, the Delhi High Court has ordered authorities to monitor Wangchuk’s health and provide necessary treatment. Opposition leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal and Omar Abdullah, have urged the government to listen to the students and the activist. Wangchuk remains committed to the cause, urging the public to join a peaceful march to parliament this coming Monday.
