Dr. Jay Bhattacharya Accuses Dr. Anthony Fauci of Abusing Power and Shutting Down Scientific Debate During the COVID-19 Pandemic
Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, the director of the National Institutes of Health and acting director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, accused Dr. Anthony Fauci of abusing his position of power during the COVID-19 pandemic. Bhattacharya stated that Fauci, who served as the longtime director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, acted as if he were the head of public health despite not having the direct authority to impose restrictions. Bhattacharya alleged that Fauci's primary abuse of power was shutting down scientific debate and denigrating scientists who disagreed with him. He further noted a contradiction between Fauci's public statements and his private diary entries, pointing out that Fauci often conveyed a certainty in public that he did not feel in private. For example, Bhattacharya noted that early school closures were made against the evidence at the time. Regarding the COVID-19 origins, Bhattacharya expressed a belief that the virus likely originated in a Chinese lab. While Fauci has consistently denied downplaying the research into the virus's origins, Bhattacharya suggested that Fauci's role in the COVID origins was more complicated than he led on in public statements.
