Sharif Ahmadzai, a 26-year-old Afghan man, appeared in an Athens court on suspicion of homicide with intent, robbery, and weapons offenses. He is the primary suspect in the death of Elisabeth Jane Ross, a 38-year-old Scottish woman who was found dead in a suitcase at an abandoned building in the Kypseli district of Athens. Ross arrived in Greece on June 26 to volunteer with a refugee support group. She was reported missing on July 10, and her body was found on July 18. Police reports indicate that Ahmadzai allegedly admitted to transporting Ross's body in a suitcase to the building where she was found. Investigators noted that Ahmadzai used Ross's bank cards to withdraw money, and a replica pistol and a knife were found at his home. Ahmadzai was turned in to police by his wife, Alaina Hall, after he allegedly gave her money and a new iPhone. The investigation remains ongoing as officials from the U.S. and UK work to identify the victim's American friends who were also staying in the area.
