Secretary of State Michael Adams Endorses James Comer for 2027 Republican Gubernatorial Nomination
Secretary of State Michael Adams officially endorsed U.S. Rep. James Comer for the 2027 Republican gubernatorial nomination during the 146th annual Fancy Farm Picnic. Speaking at the event, Michael Adams urged Republicans to unite behind Comer early to position him as the party's preferred candidate to succeed Governor Andy Beshear. While the picnic served as a major political forum, Governor Andy Beshear was absent, attending his son's baseball tournament instead. Despite his absence, Beshear responded to critiques from Senator Rand Paul, who described the governor as being "neutered" by the Republican legislature. Beshear countered by noting that while he followed in the footsteps of his father, Steve Beshear, who served as Kentucky's 31st governor, Donald Trump was the father of Representative Andy Barr. The event also highlighted the ongoing questions regarding the health of Senator Mitch McConnell, who remains in rehabilitation following a fall in June. McConnell's office confirmed he has not yet been medically cleared to leave his facility.
