The House passed the Sunshine Protection Act to make daylight saving time permanent with support from President Donald Trump.

The House of Representatives passed the Sunshine Protection Act on Tuesday with a bipartisan 308-117 vote, moving the legislation to the Senate. The bill would allow states to voluntarily observe daylight saving time year-round, eliminating the twice-annual ritual of "springing forward" and "falling back." The administration announced its support for the measure, with President Donald Trump describing the current clock changes as a "ridiculous, twice yearly production." While the bill has broad support, several groups expressed concerns regarding its implementation. Airlines for America warned that the change would create significant logistical challenges for passenger scheduling and aircraft positioning, suggesting a gradual transition timeline. Additionally, Rabbi A.D. Motzen noted that Orthodox Jewish organizations oppose the bill because later winter sunrises could delay morning prayer services, potentially affecting work and school schedules. Despite these concerns, the administration expects to sign the bill into law if it clears the Senate, aiming to provide more evening sunlight during the winter months.
