George Birmingham faces capital murder charges after allegedly killing his close friend and her husband in an Alabama home.

George Birmingham was arrested and charged with capital murder after allegedly killing his close friend, Lena Elrod, and her husband, Justin Elrod, in their Reform, Alabama, home. Authorities discovered the couple dead during a burglary investigation at approximately 12:15 a.m. on Sunday, July 12. Court records indicate Birmingham allegedly struck Justin Elrod with a metallic object and killed Lena Elrod using an electric saw. The victims were well-known in the community; Justin Elrod was a military veteran and federal corrections officer, while Lena Elrod was a business owner. Birmingham, who was an acquaintance of the couple, was described by family as a best friend. He was charged with capital murder, two counts of murder, second-degree burglary, and several drug-related offenses. Birmingham remains in the Pickens County Jail without bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 20. Funeral services for the couple will be held on July 24 and 25 at Skelton Funeral Home.
