A Chicago police SWAT officer is expected to make a full recovery after being shot during a domestic-related incident in Albany Park.

A Chicago police SWAT officer is expected to make a full recovery after being shot in the lower abdomen during a domestic-related incident in the Albany Park neighborhood on Monday morning. Interim Chicago Police Superintendent Fred Waller reported that the officer, a 20-year veteran of the department, was struck while a SWAT team attempted to breach a residence on the 4600 block of North Springfield Avenue. The incident began when police responded to a report of a woman who had been shot. While officers rendered aid to the woman, they discovered a suspect holding an adult woman and a juvenile girl hostage inside the home. The suspect fired through the door, striking the officer before eventually surrendering to authorities. Both hostages were released and transported to nearby hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. The officer underwent surgery at Illinois Masonic Medical Center and is currently in stable condition. Mayor Brandon Johnson praised the department for its swift work in de-escalating the situation. The investigation remains ongoing.
