Amazon Finance Chief Brian Olsavsky Confirms $600 Million in Tariff Refunds Following Supreme Court Ruling
Amazon received approximately $600 million in tariff refunds during the second quarter after the Supreme Court ruled that many of President Trump's levies were illegal. Brian Olsavsky, the company's finance chief, stated that the company will return some of these funds to customers who were directly affected by tariff-inflated prices. While major retailers like Apple and Walmart are seeking refunds, Amazon's refund amount is described as limited because the company pre-positioned inventory before the tariffs were issued. Additionally, Olsavsky noted that Amazon is not the importer of record for most items sold on its platform. However, many third-party sellers who import goods from overseas are actively seeking refunds. The administration announced the refund process following the Supreme Court's decision. Amazon's strategy for the refunds will involve proactively contacting affected customers to issue automatic refunds, while using the remaining funds to invest in maintaining low prices for customers.
