Amazon Pharmacy will provide popular GLP-1 weight-loss drugs to Medicare patients for $50 a month.
Amazon Pharmacy announced that it will distribute popular GLP-1 weight-loss drugs, including Wegovy, Zepbound KwikPen, and Foundayo, to eligible Medicare patients for $50 a month. This price reduction represents a significant decrease from peak costs of $1,200 to $1,500 per month, potentially saving customers approximately $300 million. The Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program, which runs through December 31, 2027, allows the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to absorb financial risks for the first 18 months for patients with obesity. Amazon Pharmacy will automate the enrollment process, including eligibility verification and billing, and offer same-day delivery in over 3,100 cities without requiring a Prime membership. This move follows similar updates from CVS Health and Walmart, which are also expanding access to weight-loss medications. With 72% of adults in the U.S. being overweight or obese, the expansion of these medications provides increased accessibility for the 66 million people covered by Medicare.
