The administration announced a new agreement where Canada will share half of the bridge revenues with a U.S. government-controlled economic development fund for the next 15 years. This concession follows a period of friction where President Trump threatened to block the opening until the U.S. was fully compensated. While the bridge was intended to symbolize unity, the current trade dispute has led some critics to view the deal as a sign of Canadian negotiation weakness.
