Andy Burnham establishes "No 10 North" in Manchester to decentralize government power and drive economic growth across the United Kingdom.

Andy Burnham has launched "No 10 North," a new Manchester-based outpost of the prime minister's office designed to shift power away from London. The administration announced that strategic decisions regarding local economic growth and devolution will move from the Treasury and the Ministry of Housing to this northern hub. Burnham intends to work from the Manchester site at least one day a week, describing it as the "nerve centre of a rewired Britain." The move aims to address the historical concentration of resources in the south, with Burnham stating that too much decision-making power has remained in London for decades. While the office currently operates out of Heron House, a permanent site is under construction in the Ancoats area. Although some critics, including Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch, have suggested the move is a "gimmick" or reflects a mayor-like approach, Burnham maintains it is a vital step toward ensuring growth reaches every postcode. The administration remains committed to using this northern base to balance the country's economic landscape.
