Prosecutors stated that the 28-year-old man from Rotherham allegedly entered Widdecombe's home on July 8 and struck her on the head with a hammer 21 times. The attack occurred while Widdecombe was eating lunch, and the suspect reportedly took her wallet before departing the property. Widdecombe, a veteran politician who served as a Conservative MP for 23 years, was discovered by her gardener on July 9. While a pathologist cited blunt force injury to the head as a provisional cause of death, the precise medical cause is still being established. Counter-terrorism detectives are currently investigating whether the attack had a political or terrorist motivation. Joshua Kerry appeared in court and did not indicate a plea.
