The 105-year-old cast iron pipe caused minor flooding and forced the closure of eastbound lanes, impacting approximately 10 to 20 customers. While the break caused minor disruptions, it was not directly related to a larger rupture that occurred last week. Two miles away, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power continues to repair a massive sinkhole at Sunset Boulevard and Holloway Drive. That rupture released 17 million gallons of water, though a secondary pinhole leak briefly delayed the restoration of the 36-inch steel pipe. Crews are currently repressurizing the line and conducting water quality tests. The administration of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power expects to reopen the heavily traveled section of Sunset Boulevard by late Friday evening. These incidents highlight the ongoing challenges of maintaining aging infrastructure across the region.
