Volta Co-Leads Series A with Andreessen Horowitz to Provide AI Infrastructure for Startups
Volta, a new AI infrastructure company, is co-leading its Series A funding round with Andreessen Horowitz to bridge the gap in compute access for startups. While hyperscalers dominate the market with massive balance sheets, many startups are often priced out of long-term infrastructure commitments. Volta aims to solve this by combining cloud operations with project finance to unlock new sources of compute for AI-native companies. Founded by Ricard Boada and Sofia Gumuzio, Volta provides a unique model that assembles credit support and project equity behind each deployment. This approach allows startups to bypass the need for investment-grade backstops, making high-quality compute more accessible. The company has already secured a $10 billion strategic partnership for a 133 MW deployment in Norway, which will be fueled by Nvidia’s Vera Rubin systems. Volta also maintains a $5 billion infrastructure program with Azora to ensure a steady flow of projects. By integrating physical infrastructure expertise with production-cloud software, Volta positions itself as a 'neocloud' that serves the needs of smaller, agile AI developers rather than just the industry's largest players.
