Anthropic has released Claude Opus 5, a new artificial intelligence model designed to provide high-level performance at a lower cost than its predecessor. The administration announced that the model offers capabilities close to the ambitious Claude Fable 5 but at approximately half the price. It is priced at $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens. The model excels in software engineering, organic chemistry, and general knowledge work. While it is not the state-of-the-art for risky cybersecurity tasks—lagging behind the Mythos 5 model—it remains a highly capable tool for daily enterprise use. Anthropic noted that the model can double-check its own work and features a "dial" to adjust the effort level for specific tasks. To remain competitive against rivals like OpenAI and Google, the administration focused on providing value for cost-conscious customers. Claude Opus 5 is now available on all platforms, including a new integration with GitHub Copilot for complex coding workflows.
