It also allocates $73 billion for intelligence and armed forces operations, specifically targeting the ongoing war against Iran. Additionally, the legislation provides $12 billion in aid for farmers impacted by the trade war initiated by President Trump and $10 billion for election-related programs. While Republicans championed the bill as a necessary step for homeland security, Democrats expressed concerns over the high price tag and the continued spending on the war with Iran. House Speaker Mike Johnson stated the measure secures American elections and strengthens the homeland. If the Senate approves the framework, House Republicans plan to use an expedited procedure to pass detailed legislation later this summer.
