Pastor Marcus L. Martin captured a photo of the five adults who drowned in the Scioto River before they were swept away.

Pastor Marcus L. Martin captured a photograph of five adults fishing in the Scioto River in Powell, Ohio, just before the group drowned on Sunday, July 19, 2026. The group, which included four Honduran citizens, was wading in a treacherous area known for steep slopes and quick drop-offs. Delaware County Sheriff Jeffrey Balzer reported that the tragedy occurred when one adult began struggling to swim, prompting the others to enter the water to provide aid. All five adults were eventually swept under and perished, while two children under the age of 10 were left on the bank and have been orphaned by the accident. Honduran authorities have identified four of the victims as Miguel Ángel Guerra, Carmen Idalia Lara Ferrera, José Mario Pineda, and Marina Suyapa Regalado. The Honduran embassy is currently working with U.S. officials to repatriate the bodies and support the two children, who are currently staying in a shelter.
