Prairie Farms Dairy, Inc. will close two manufacturing facilities in Shullsburg, resulting in the layoff of nearly 100 workers.
Prairie Farms Dairy, Inc. announced this week that it will shutter manufacturing operations at its Shullsburg Creamery and White Hill Cheese plants. The Shullsburg Creamery operations ceased on July 20, while White Hill Cheese production is scheduled to end on Aug. 14. The company stated the move is part of an ongoing evaluation of its manufacturing network to ensure long-term growth and efficiency. The closures will affect nearly 100 employees, with 43 positions lost at the Shullsburg Creamery and 54 at White Hill Cheese. Roles range from production and packaging to administrative and leadership positions. While the manufacturing plants will close, the Shullsburg Creamery retail store and distribution center will remain open. Prairie Farms Dairy, Inc. plans to sell the White Hill Cheese facility to an interested party. Shullsburg Mayor Dan Morrissey expressed hope that the potential sale to Beecher Homemade Cheese could restore several dozen jobs to the community. The company remains committed to supporting affected employees throughout the transition.
