James Daunt announced the closure of the Redwood City Barnes and Noble bookstore on September 16.
James Daunt, CEO of Barnes and Noble, confirmed that the longtime Redwood City location at 1091 El Camino Real will close its doors on September 16. The store has been in operation for 33 years and its closure is attributed to the termination of the store's lease. While the closure is sudden, the administration of the bookstore chain is preparing to open two new locations in the Bay Area this year, including stores in Cupertino and Fremont. Barnes and Noble has expanded significantly, growing from under 600 stores in 2023 to 712 locations nationwide. The company plans to open 60 new stores by the end of the year. The Redwood City location will hold sales on almost everything in the store before it closes. Employees from the Redwood City store will be offered the chance to be transferred to nearby locations.
