Emily Cantrell Announces Cancellation of Blue Angels Performance Due to Weather
Emily Cantrell, President and CEO of Seafair, announced that the iconic U.S. Navy Blue Angels air show will not take place today due to unfavorable weather conditions. The cancellation occurs during the 77th year of Seafair, a three-day festival in Seattle that expects to draw approximately 180,000 visitors to the Lake Washington log boom and Genesee Park. While the performance was called off, the Museum of Flight offered guests a rain check for Sunday's show. The decision comes amid a period of growing debate regarding the future of the Blue Angels in Seattle. Some activists, including Dr. Breck Lebegue, have called for the transition to more environmentally friendly options like electric airplanes to reduce jet fumes. Conversely, many residents, such as Barbara Bradbury and Steve Downey, continue to support the tradition for its community impact and sensory experience. Despite the calls for change, the Blue Angels have already committed to returning for the 2027 season.
