Passaic Mayor Hector Lora Confirms Recovery of 10-Year-Old Girl's Body from the Passaic River

Passaic Mayor Hector Lora confirmed that the body of a 10-year-old girl was recovered from the Passaic River on Friday night. The girl was missing for several days after she and two other children entered the water near a boat ramp off Dundee Island Park on Wednesday evening. While the 11-year-old girl managed to escape the water on her own, the 10-year-old boy who was her sibling was recovered on Wednesday night. The 10-year-old girl, who was a friend of the siblings, was found by a couple watching from an apartment window and was eventually removed from the river. Emergency crews utilized boats, helicopters, divers, and sonar equipment to conduct an extensive search. Mayor Hector Lora noted that the operation transitioned into a recovery mission as the search area expanded to Newark Bay. To assist in the final stages, cadaver dogs were deployed to pick up scents in the water. A memorial has been erected in Passaic to honor the two children who drowned.
