Bristol Myers Squibb announced it will deploy a second NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD, utilizing the latest Vera Rubin systems to create the most energy-efficient AI cluster in the life sciences industry. The new infrastructure delivers up to ten times the performance per megawatt compared to the systems it replaces, addressing the growing demand for compute power as the company builds its own foundational models. Robert Plenge, chief research officer at Bristol Myers Squibb, stated that the increased computing power allows the company to screen dozens of drug candidates in early development stages rather than just ten. He noted that AI tools have already reduced the time required to produce medicines for clinical testing by 20% to 30%, a figure that could reach 50% in the coming years. Greg Meyers, chief digital and technology officer at Bristol Myers Squibb, emphasized that the investment is driven by the need for efficiency, noting that the new system provides significantly more compute capacity per watt as electricity costs continue to rise.
