William Ferrer Arrested for Murder of 12-Year-Old Jacob Freytes in Bronx Shooting
The New York Police Department announced the arrest of William Ferrer, a 45-year-old Bronx resident, for the fatal shooting of 12-year-old Jacob Freytes. Freytes, described as an innocent bystander, was riding his bicycle near a bodega in the Mount Eden neighborhood on Saturday afternoon. Gunfire erupted during a chaotic confrontation between a group of people, striking Freytes in the shoulder. He attempted to flee back into the store for safety but collapsed in an aisle before being transported to Lincoln Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. William Ferrer faces multiple charges, including second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, and several counts of assault. Police sources indicate the shooting was gang-related, involving the Trinitarios and Sev Side Pinni groups. Two other men, aged 25 and 34, were also wounded in the shooting and remain in stable condition. Mayor Zohran Mamdani and local community members have expressed their grief over the loss of the young boy, who was the son of a retired NYPD detective sergeant. The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
