The Brooklyn Roasting Company is recalling over 3,000 gallons of cold brew concentrate due to a potential risk of botulism.
The Brooklyn Roasting Company has issued a voluntary recall of approximately 3,047.5 gallons of its Pasteurized Cold Brew Concentrate sold in New York and New Jersey. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the recall after the company determined that room-temperature storage of the product could lead to the formation of Clostridium botulinum toxin. The affected products were distributed between April 1 and June 20, with "best by" dates ranging from June 3 to September 30. While botulism is a rare condition that can be fatal by attacking the body's nerves, the FDA classified this as a Class II recall, indicating that any health consequences would likely be temporary or medically reversible. To date, there have been no reported illnesses related to the product. Consumers who possess the affected concentrate are urged to either discard it or return it to the place of purchase. Anyone experiencing symptoms such as blurred vision, muscle weakness, or difficulty breathing should seek medical attention immediately.
