Bryan Kohberger seeks to withdraw guilty plea in University of Idaho quadruple murder case
Bryan Kohberger, the man convicted of killing four University of Idaho students in 2022, is seeking to abandon his guilty plea and wants his day in court. Kohberger filed a petition for post-conviction relief in the Ada County District Court in Idaho, claiming he was misled into confessing due to ineffective assistance of counsel and false promises. While Kohberger currently serves four consecutive life sentences, he argues that the state's narrative of the crime is a "work of fiction." Alivea Goncalves, the older sister of one of the victims, expressed skepticism regarding the petition. She noted that Kohberger was asked during his plea hearing if he had adequate defense and he answered yes. Goncalves described the petition as a more of a desperate move by an egomaniac rather than a credible challenge to the conviction. Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador stated that his office remains ready to ensure justice is fully carried out for the families of the victims.
