Joseph Charles Henrichsen was arrested after holding two federal employees hostage for over 12 hours in the Shasta-Trinity national forest.

Joseph Charles Henrichsen was arrested Friday morning after holding two U.S. Forest Service employees hostage for more than 12 hours in Northern California. The incident began Thursday morning near Gumboot Lake, where Henrichsen allegedly restrained the workers with zip ties and held them at gunpoint inside a trailer. Siskiyou County Sheriff Jeremiah LaRue reported that Henrichsen, 49, was armed with an AR-15, knives, and claimed to have grenades. The standoff drew a massive response from local police, the FBI Hostage Rescue Team, and regional sheriff offices. Henrichsen reportedly requested to speak with the FBI before negotiations began in the late afternoon. The hostages were released safely around 1:50 a.m. Friday, and Henrichsen and his son, Phoenix Henrichsen, were taken into custody shortly after. US Attorney Eric Grant stated that both men will face charges for kidnapping a federal employee. While the specific motivations for the kidnapping remain unclear, officials confirmed the workers were performing routine fieldwork when they were abducted.
