Anthony Johnson reports on how smoke from over 100 Canadian wildfires has triggered an Air Quality Advisory across New York and New Jersey.

Smoke from more than 100 wildfires in Canada has placed New York State, New York City, and parts of New Jersey under an Air Quality Advisory. The haze is causing spikes in smoke-related pollution, which can lead to coughing, dizziness, and aggravated heart or lung diseases. To mitigate the effects of the fine particle pollution, experts recommend reducing outdoor activities and using N95 masks. In response, the City of Newark is distributing free masks as the Air Quality Index is projected to reach 200 on Thursday. The city has also closed all outdoor pools until conditions improve. The poor air quality is impacting summer youth camps across New Jersey, forcing some to scrap outdoor activities or send children home early. Additionally, New York City officials are providing free KN95 masks to residents. The Village of Greenwood Lake Beach has also closed its facilities to ensure the safety of residents and visitors during the hazy period.
