The Republican-led plan aims to secure funding for military strikes and national security despite opposition from Democrats, who argue the resources should be spent on domestic costs. The budget includes $60 billion for the Pentagon, $13 billion for national security, and $12 billion for farmers impacted by tariffs. It also allocates $10 billion for voting law changes aligned with the SAVE America Act. To bypass potential filibusters in the Senate, the administration announced that the House will use the budget reconciliation process, which requires only a majority vote. While House Republicans push the plan forward, Senate Majority Leader John Thune remains noncommittal, focusing on a stopgap continuing resolution to avoid a government shutdown on Sept. 30. If the Senate cannot agree on a short-term measure, Thune may use the House’s budget resolution as a fallback.
