Ramón Ángel Álvarez Ayala Arrested as Mastermind of Influencer Valeria Márquez and Mayor Carlos Manzo Killings
Mexican authorities have arrested Ramón Ángel Álvarez Ayala, a prominent leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel known as "El R-1," in connection with two high-profile assassinations. Public Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch announced that Álvarez Ayala is the alleged mastermind behind the November 2025 killing of Uruapan Mayor Carlos Manzo, who was an outspoken critic of organized crime. Additionally, the investigation linked Álvarez Ayala to the May 2025 feminicide of beauty influencer Valeria Márquez. Authorities revealed that Márquez was romantically involved with Álvarez Ayala’s son, Francisco, who allegedly threatened her before asking his father to carry out the killing. Márquez was shot and killed while livestreaming from her beauty salon. The arrest of Ramón Ángel Álvarez Ayala marks a significant step in dismantling the criminal organization's influence. While the investigation into the death of Mayor Manzo continues, authorities are currently searching for Francisco, who remains at large. Prosecutors are expected to disclose more details as the case progresses.
