Ramón Ángel Álvarez Ayala Arrested as Mastermind Behind Influencer Valeria Márquez and Mayor Carlos Manzo Killings
Mexican authorities have arrested Ramón Ángel Álvarez Ayala, a prominent leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel known as "El R-1," for his role in two high-profile assassinations. The administration announced that Álvarez Ayala is the alleged mastermind behind the November 2025 killing of Uruapan Mayor Carlos Manzo, who was an outspoken critic of organized crime. Additionally, the arrest links him to the May 2025 femicide of beauty influencer Valeria Márquez, who was shot dead while livestreaming from her salon in Zapopan, Jalisco. Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch revealed that the murder of Valeria Márquez was orchestrated by Álvarez Ayala at the request of his son, Francisco, who was the influencer's former romantic partner. After their relationship ended, Francisco allegedly threatened Valeria Márquez multiple times before asking his father to carry out the hit. While Álvarez Ayala is now in custody, Francisco remains at large. The arrest marks a significant progress in dismantling one of Mexico's most violent criminal structures and provides new leads for ongoing investigations into the cartel's regional influence.
