Caterpillar Inc. Reports Record Second-Quarter Sales of $20.5 Billion
Caterpillar Inc. reported second-quarter 2026 results on August 4, 2026, marking a historic milestone for the heavy equipment manufacturer. The company achieved $20.5 billion in sales and revenues, a 24% increase over the previous year's second quarter. Joe Creed, Chairman and CEO of Caterpillar Inc., noted that this is the first time in the company's history that it has generated over $20 billion in sales and revenues in a single quarter. The growth was driven by strong order rates and a 92% increase in the backlog, which reached $72.1 billion. Operating profit margins improved to 20.9%, up from 17.3% in the same period last year. The company also benefited from the AI trade by providing power infrastructure for data centers. Caterpillar Inc. deployed $1.5 billion for stock repurchases and $0.7 billion for dividends during the quarter. The stock has risen 60% year to date, contributing to record highs for the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
