The San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department confirmed that a propane barbecue on a first-floor exterior deck sparked the six-alarm fire at the Spinnaker Cove Condo Complex in Foster City. The blaze displaced more than 150 residents and left the 51-unit structure red-tagged and at risk of total collapse. Fire officials made an arrest in connection with the fire after the barbecue was allegedly left unattended. While four firefighters sustained minor injuries during the operation, all residents were safely evacuated. The American Red Cross and the Foster City Chamber of Commerce are coordinating relief efforts for the displaced residents, including Aiden Reyes, who expressed heartbreak over the loss of sentimental belongings. The building remains fenced off as crews monitor for hidden hotspots to prevent the fire from rekindling.
