Mary Barra confirms General Motors will launch new gas-powered Cadillac models starting next spring as the automaker scales back its electric vehicle plans.

Mary Barra, the CEO of General Motors, announced that the company will begin launching a new generation of internal combustion engine (ICE) Cadillac vehicles starting next spring. These models will include an updated CT5 sedan, an XT5 SUV, and a redesigned three-row XT6 SUV. The move marks a significant pivot for the automaker, which had previously planned for the Cadillac brand to be exclusively electric by 2030. The shift comes as GM faces $10.9 billion in EV-related charges due to slower-than-expected adoption and easing emissions standards. To offset these costs, the administration of the company is increasing gas-powered engine production and onshoring manufacturing. While GM remains a top EV seller, it faces stiff competition from rivals like Hyundai and Toyota. Despite the scaled-back electric timeline, GM raised its full-year adjusted profit guidance to between $14 billion and $16 billion. The new gas-powered models will be sold alongside Cadillac's existing electric lineup, providing consumers with more diverse powertrain options.
