Tracy Butler reports hazardous air quality in the Chicago area due to smoke from Canadian wildfires.
Tracy Butler, an ABC7 AccuWeather meteorologist, reported that hazardous air quality remains in effect for the Chicago area on Friday due to smoke from Canadian wildfires. The air quality is currently unhealthy for everyone to breathe, causing low visibility and potential travel delays at O'Hare Airport. The smoke has forced the rescheduling of several major events, including a summer music series at Millennium Park and a Chicago Fire match at Soldier Field. Additionally, the Chicago Park District has closed all outdoor pools and beaches, moving all-day camps indoors. Butler noted that while the worst conditions occur in the morning, air quality may improve in the afternoon as rain and storms potentially wash away the smoke. While conditions are expected to improve on Saturday, smoky skies may return on Sunday. Health experts, including Dr. Juanita Mora of the American Lung Association, advise residents to stay indoors and remain hydrated to protect their respiratory systems until the air clears.
