BYD is set to become the world’s largest vehicle maker as Chinese brands capture 16.5% of the UK car market.

BYD is positioned to become the world’s largest vehicle maker, surpassing the Toyota Group, as Chinese automotive brands rapidly dominate the United Kingdom market. The administration's decision to forgo the specific tariffs on plug-in hybrids that the European Union imposes has allowed Chinese manufacturers to capture a record 16.5% of all new car sales in the UK. The brand's growth was highlighted at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where the global premiere of the Denza Z supercar drew significant interest, with some buyers canceling orders for McLaren and Ferrari to secure the new model. BYD has already overtaken Tesla to become Britain’s best-selling electric vehicle brand this year. While legacy automakers have complained about Chinese government subsidies, the UK remains a primary export hub for the brand. BYD is expanding its presence by planning to increase its UK dealer network to 165 sites and rolling out a "Flash" charging network capable of recharging vehicles in just five minutes.
