The incident began when deputies responded to a home on Monteverde Drive where a man was shot and placed into the trunk of a vehicle. The suspects led deputies on a pursuit, which ended in a residential neighborhood. Gloria Orejel, a spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, stated that the driver of the vehicle exited the car and fired a shot into the trunk at the kidnapped victim. Deputies then opened fire, fatally shooting the driver. A second suspect, who was a passenger, complied with commands and was taken into custody. The identities of the victims and suspects have not been released yet. Investigators are currently working to determine if the suspects and the victim knew each other and the specific circumstances of the kidnapping. There is no threat to the public, and the investigation remains ongoing.
