Greek authorities arrest 26-year-old Afghan man for the intentional homicide of Scottish missionary Elisabeth-Jane Ross
Greek police have arrested a 26-year-old Afghan national, Sharif Ahmadzai, for the intentional homicide of Elisabeth-Jane Ross, a 38-year-old Scottish missionary. Ross was found dead in a suitcase in an abandoned building in the Kypseli district of Athens on July 18. Sharif Ahmadzai, a professional boxer and child refugee, admitted to transporting Ross's body in a suitcase and using her bank cards to withdraw money. While Ahmadzai claimed to have discovered Ross already dead, investigators are exploring whether a confrontation occurred, possibly due to him rummaging through her belongings or a case of sexual assault. Forensic scientists believe Ross was likely asphyxiated, though a toxicology report is being fast-tracked to confirm the cause of death. The investigation involved cooperation between the UK's National Crime Agency and Scottish police. Alaina Hall, Ahmadzai's partner, played a significant role in helping identify the victim and suspect. Police seized a replica pistol and a knife from Ahmadzai's home during the investigation.
