John Ratcliffe, the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, stated that new Russian recruits now survive an average of only 20 to 30 minutes upon arriving on the battlefield in Ukraine. Speaking at a defense summit in Pennsylvania, Ratcliffe attributed this high casualty rate to the widespread deployment of cost-effective, AI-powered drones. These specialized strike platforms have allowed Ukraine to mitigate Russia's significant manpower advantage. While Russia is currently losing approximately 7,000 soldiers per week, the mastery of emerging technologies has served as a great equalizer. Ratcliffe noted that the pace of the Russian advance has stalled because of Ukraine's proficiency in drone warfare and asymmetric tactics. The administration and its allies are now evaluating new funding mechanisms to secure access to these combat-tested technologies. Recent developments include a $6 billion drone-production deal between the European Union and Ukraine. Ratcliffe emphasized that the United States must lead in these technological advancements to maintain its position in the global marketplace.
