CME Group launches new single-stock futures to provide investors with nearly 24-hour trading options for major equities.
CME Group launched cash-settled single-stock futures on 55 U.S. equities, including major names like SpaceX and Micron Technology, to allow investors to take leveraged positions around the clock. These contracts trade on the CME Globex platform from Sunday evening through through Friday afternoon, providing a way to respond to market-moving events outside of regular trading hours. Unlike options, these futures do not involve time decay or changing implied volatility, and they require less capital because they are traded on margin. The exchange stated that the products are designed to offer a simpler way to express bullish or bearish views than options. Retail brokers have characterized the launch as a significant growth catalyst for retail investors. The CME Group indicated that it may expand the lineup of stocks beyond the initial 55 based on customer demand and listing standards.
