President Trump seeks support from Senators Thom Tillis and John Cornyn to secure the confirmation of Todd Blanche as Attorney General.
The administration announced it is actively courting Republican Senators Thom Tillis and John Cornyn to secure the confirmation of Todd Blanche as Attorney General. Although President Trump has previously criticized both men for their perceived disloyalty, a single "no" vote from either senator on the Judiciary Committee could sink the nomination of his former personal lawyer. The senators have expressed concerns regarding Blanche’s role in approving a $1.776 billion taxpayer slush fund and granting tax immunity to the Trump family. While the Justice Department stated the fund would not move forward due to bipartisan outrage over potential payments to rioters, Blanche has yet to put this commitment in writing. Additionally, Thom Tillis has pushed for Blanche to address the botched redaction of the Jeffrey Epstein files. Despite his previous history of questionable votes, Tillis appears ready to support Blanche if the acting attorney general continues to show flexibility on these key issues.
