Nolan Wells is among a group of people on Horn Island who are being investigated following his death on July 4.

Nolan Wells, an 18-year-old college football player, died after going missing during a Fourth of July boat trip to Horn Island, Mississippi. While his body was recovered on July 6, the exact cause of death remains under investigation by the Jackson County Sheriff's Office. The investigation has sparked debate regarding how Wells ended up on the island alone. While some witnesses suggest he chose to stay behind to meet a girl, his parents, represented by attorney Ben Crump, believe he would have stayed with the group. Furthermore, the fact that Wells left his phone on the boat has been noted as a point of interest. Authorities are currently reviewing GPS data, audio of a distress call regarding a failing bilge pump, and various witness accounts. A second independent autopsy is being conducted in Washington, D.C., to determine if Wells suffered any physical injuries beyond drowning. The district attorney's office will eventually present the findings to a grand jury.
