Databricks reaches a $188 billion valuation following a new round of strategic funding led by Coatue.

Databricks announced a new round of funding that values the company at $188 billion, with the deal led by existing investor Coatue. The company signed a term sheet for the round, which is expected to close later this summer. While the exact amount was not disclosed, reports suggest the raise is approximately $3 billion. The new capital will accelerate the company's AI strategy, specifically focusing on three core products: Unity AI Gateway, Genie, and Lakebase. Databricks aims to help enterprises manage the costs and governance of AI by providing a unified platform that unifies data and AI on agent-ready infrastructure. Ali Ghodsi, Co-founder and CEO of Databricks, stated that enterprises are shifting toward "valuemaxxing," seeking the best outcomes per dollar rather than using the most expensive models for every task. The funding will support future AI acquisitions and deepen research to meet massive customer demand. Databricks currently serves more than 20,000 organizations worldwide, including 70% of the Fortune 500.
