Democratic Senate candidate Julian Beaudion suspends his campaign in South Dakota.
Julian Beaudion has suspended his campaign for the U.S. Senate in South Dakota, leaving the race to current Senator Mike Rounds and independent candidate Brian Bengs. Beaudion, a nonprofit leader and former state highway patrol officer, cited a variety of factors for his decision, including a recent house fire and intimidating threats received by himself and his family. In a statement, Beaudion noted that South Dakotans deserve leaders who prioritize service over ambition. While he did not offer an specific endorsement for either remaining candidate, he noted that Brian Bengs has shown a willingness to do whatever is necessary to gain power. The withdrawal of Julian Beaudion simplifies the race for voters. With the Democratic candidate out, Mike Rounds maintains a financial advantage over Bengs, with $2.7 million remaining to spend compared of to Bengs' $51,000. Rounds indicated that his campaign strategy will remain unchanged despite the departure of the Democratic contender.
