A shooting at the Ultra Lounge nightclub in southeast Denver resulted in one death and eight injuries early Monday morning. The incident occurred in the patio area or parking lot of the venue located at 9755 E. Hampden Ave. The Denver Police Department reported that at least two people fired shots during the event. While no suspects have been identified or arrested yet, officials are currently investigating the circumstances of the shooting. Westbound Hampden Avenue was closed at South Florence Street to facilitate the investigation. Community leaders are calling for collective action to address the recurring violence. Brother Jeff Fard, executive director of Brother Jeff's Cultural Center, described the event as a "mass shooting" and urged the community to move toward a solution rather than viewing the tragedy as inevitable. MiDian Shofner, CEO of The Epitome of Black Excellence and Partnership, also noted that the community must engage in honest conversations to understand the causes of such violence and find ways to prevent future occurrences.
