Michael Creedon confirmed that Dollar Tree will close approximately 75 stores this year as part of a broader strategy to modernize its locations.
Michael Creedon, the CEO of Dollar Tree, announced that the discount retailer plans to close about 75 stores this year to improve the overall shopping experience. The closures are part of a 2026 strategy to modernize the company's more than 9,400 locations and ensure they meet internal standards. During a first-quarter earnings call, Michael Creedon acknowledged that many stores previously fell below the retailer's expectations. While 42% of locations were initially identified as needing work, that figure has dropped to less than one-third as renovations continue. The company aims to create a more consistent experience by investing in locations with the greatest long-term potential. In addition to the 75 closures, Dollar Tree plans to open approximately 400 new locations in 2026. While a complete list of the closing stores has not been released, some locations have already shuttered. The company continues to focus on upgrading existing stores to maintain its competitive edge in the retail market.
